This video should just about sum up what this gold dig is all about. If not, check out the archives. C'mon people, if you've been with me for a while now, I blog about the same exact things every year.
On a seperate note, I did find out this year that we Egan's are not nearly as Irish as we thought we were! Aunt Marilyn L. did a DNA test and Irish is like number 8 on the list. Norwegian was more potent in our blood. Oh well, here's to being 1/200th Irish!
So, Jason went above and beyond yet again. However, I took photo's on my old phone that I have since restored from zero and have lost all of the photos. So, lemme 'splain how it went down.
First of all, any one who knows Jason should know that he takes Halloween PRETTY seriously. I however, do not.
Jason mentioned that he'd like some foam skulls for Valentines day. I agreed. Jason then asked what I might like for Valentines Day, I explained that it would be really awesome if he could get a babysitter and do a romantic dinner at home. I also said if he were to decorate the house, that'd be even more awesome aaaaand if he really wanted to, he could use a flower or two as the centerpiece. I'm a little high maintenance.
Valentines fell on a Saturday this year so that meant that Friday the 13th was the day before. Friday, the 13th means that a Haunted House was going to be open for that one night only.
Because, I'm high maintenance, I asked for what I wanted, I felt Jason should be rewarded with going to the haunted house. I don't do haunted houses well so, he figured we weren't going. I decided I'd go this time. I thought it'd be more fun to surprise him though. I talked with Diane about taking the girls overnight as we would be out pretty late, I gave her their clothes ahead of time, I was so prepared to keep it a secret. Then after he slaved all day on my gift, I'd surprise him with a Halloween card that said we'd get to go to the haunted house that night. However, I suck at keeping things inside and because he was begging me to go, I caved. I ended up telling him like a week ahead of time.
That Friday came and I was at work all day. Jason was too. When I got home, all the blinds in the house were closed except the one by the back door. I peeked in, he yelled not to come in yet then closed the blind. I saw him all dressed up and preparing something in the kitchen. I got more and more excited by what I saw. It looked amazing inside! He let me in and went through the crepe paper strips hanging in the doorway to the living room. I looked around and couldn't stop smiling! There were lit candles, plants and shrubbery from a bunch of our neighbors all over the room, and water trickling down the fountain. The lights were dim, the table was decorated with chocolates, sparkling cider, and a dozen roses. My my had he gone out of his way! He had picked up dinner from La Ferrovia and also made 's'mores in a jar' for dessert. It was fantastic. All I had to give him in return was his measly little card which he enjoyed. He was super excited to go to the haunted house.
The haunted house was scary. I'm not a fan. I told Jason while we were in it, it's a good thing he's a good guy and that I love him. I tried to run through it to make it go faster but he kept telling me to stop. At the very end, they amake you wait in another short line. They then take just a few of you into this room where there are 3 coffins. They instruct you to stand by the coffins and then proceed to tell you to get in. After watching a bunch of people just jump on in close the door and disappear, I refused to get in. Jason, who is claustrophobic by the way, jumped right on in! No qualms! I was shocked! I stood there refusing to budge. They just kept right on shoving people in these coffins and I'd never hear or see them again. After a while I figured I wasn't going anywhere if I didn't get in the stupid coffin. Dammit! I swallowed my pride, got in and hoped for the best. I could sue them later. The coffin was a device that moved you to a slide that took you to the chainsaw guy outside. I HATE THAT GUY! I ignored him the best I could and then had to explain to Jason where I'd been the last 5 minutes.
Treats at Harmons. We had to explain to Allie that even though her name was on the coke, it wasn't her's without paying for it first.
Saturday was Lagoon! Wahoo!! Lots of fun and lots of sweat! 100 degrees is not fun when you're in the sun all day. The girls and I got there about noon and stayed till about 11! Fun, fun, fun!!!
The girls had just got soaked.
We celebrated Ellyse's 10th birthday with the family. Thanks to all those that came!
Emma is adorbs!
We've redecorated Ellyse's room for her birthday this year. She chose teal walls with black and white zebra print accents.
Before
After - Sort of.... not completely done yet.
She's super into zebra's right now. So....
My attempt at zebra stripes. Ummm, if you squint real hard.... they TOTALLY look like zebra stripes.
Ellyse showing off her darling outfit giving by grandma's.
Ellyse's real birthday isn't until tomorrow but here comes the gushiness. Lesee Lou, you are just the glue that holds everything together some days! You're attitude toward helping others and being the peacemaker really makes our lives so much better! I love you're girly girl life! You can put an outfit together better than me most days! You're love for shoes is truly a testament to girls everywhere. I can't imagine our lives without you in them! You are so beautiful, kind, funny, and loving! I love you more and more each day!! Love, mama. Happy birthday sweet pea!
Later update: Her friend water party:
On her actual birthday, we had a water party for her. When the guests arrived, they got to decorate their water bottles until everyone arrived.
We played a water sponge target game.
A fill up the bucket the fastest game and threw water balloons at the losing team.
Ate some cupcakes.
Sang the song.
Had some popsicles, and presents.
That evening, she chose Taste of India as her birthday dinner.
Her ONE surprise present (because most of her presents were in her newly decorated room).
An Anna doll, which she guessed before opening it. What?! How'd she know?
We attended a Halloween party of sorts around Tony's (Which sadly, had an oven fire), and Burchcreek mercantile. They had a costume contest and Allie won 5th place. Ellyse was a black lace vampiress. I made the costume, thought it turned out pretty good but Ellyse said to Allie, 'Next year, I get the costume that you buy and Allie has to wear the one you make mom.' :)
Here's a little diddy of a video that shows off a hidden talent we discovered this month in our pup.
And one more. Please disreguard the messy room.
The girls celebrated their drug free (spirit) week with hat day and crazy hair day. I'm terribly baised but aren't they cute girls?!
We attended the Zombie Crawl down 25th Street and also a carnival at Union Station one Saturday evening, then on the following Monday, they had a pumpkin carving contest. Here are a few of our favorites.
My parent's house saw it's first snow storm of this season.
Isn't this the picture of beauty?
Our ward had it's annual Halloween Carnival/dinner. They held it on the day before Halloween. This was a big day for our family. We planned, decorated, and cleaned up the spook alley, Jason hosted a carnival game, did all our costumes and makeup and dumb me, I signed up to bring soup too. The 30th and 31st were whirlwind days! However, I did win the costume contest. Hey Oh!
School Costume Parade. I've heard a lot of schools have gotten rid of this tradition. I'm glad they still do it at our kid's school. We have Carl from Up, Minnie Mouse, about 45 witches, and a slew of little kids costumes that I couldn't quite figure out.
Ellyse did her own makeup pretty much all by herself on Halloween. I attempted it on the 30th and she knocked it out of the park. My makeup job wasn't nearly as good as hers. I guess all the makeup videos she's been viewing on youtube paid off.
Ellyse's teacher is Minnie. She seems like so much fun!!
Our tradition is to go trick or treating around our neighborhood, then go to Diane's for dinner in a pumpkin and then trick or treat around Diane's house. We stop in a few of our favorite homes for a short visit.
We also take pictures, obviously. Below you will find Cruella Devil, a seventies rocker, ape man, dude from the band Kiss, Vampire, Monster High doll- Lagoona Blue, and Captain America.
check out the impressive wing span on ape man. And the impressive height on the dude from Kiss.
Here's a video of a fun house we found in Clinton. Hope your Halloween/October was fantastic!
